As stated in the title, I'm perplexed as to why others are having issues. I pulled this out of the package, plugged it in and it worked perfectly. I tried it on 3 Sony players, Including an NWZ-S639 which is notoriously picky about cables and was able to charge and transfer music without issue. The build quality seems stout and unless really beat on, this cable should last quite a while.
If you're worried about this cable, don't. It works exactly as it should.

the cord on this item would serve its purpose much better if it could be at least one or two feet longer.
