I was concerned about purchasing this after the mixed reviews. I wasn't able to purchase a replacement sync cord through sony and lost mine in a recent move. I purchased this same item from different suppliers to ensure I would get one that worked. They all worked great. I do have the E436F Walkman which they no longer sell. This maybe the difference in my satasfaction with the product and others who gave the same item less than favorable reviews.

The Sony Corporation has lost its way over the past decade. It no longer pays attention to details, and details are crucial to customer satisfaction. Sony refused to use an "industry standard" charging cable, such as the cables sold at every phone store. Instead, Sony designed its own charging cable, but modified it several times so that the charging cable that fits Walkman "A" will not work properly for Walkman "B".

I have the Walkman E436F, and was careful to purchase my cable from a vendor who specified that he would ship the E436F version of the Sony cable. I've bought two, and both work perfectly for both charging the battery and transfering music.

Order ONLY a Sony cable where the vendor specifies it matches your Walkman's model number. Send the vendor an e-mail within an hour of placing your order, asking the vendor to verify that the cable being shipped is a match for your Walkman. When i plug it in, it takes about 2 minutes to read. After that I can only transfer files to and from my mp3 player. It does not charge at all.
