Summary: Works great 2007-10-01
Comment: This product works great, just as described. The control is really easy to use and the whole dock sits nicely of the desk attached to my speaker system. Really it's great for the price you pay.

Summary: Adequate, but not for the audiophile 2007-07-09
Comment: Great product, but as you can see from the various audio quality complaints below, there are some real challenges to attaining sound quality.
On most music, I have to turn my iPod volume down to roughly 1/4 volume, and then turn the bass all the way off on my stereo, and then increase actual speaker volume using the amp's dial. That's a hell of a lot of fiddling to get middling sound quality. Even then, there's a slight background hum that never completely goes away. From the sounds of the other reviews, every stereo requires slightly different tuning to minimalize some of these problems. Better than nothing, though.
In short, works fine for background music during a party, but not good at all if you're wanting to just quietly chill out and listen to music at a high level of sound quality.

Summary: Skip the Line Out... 2007-06-01
Comment: This is a nice little unit if you only want a convenient charging dock. It was designed to integrate esthetically with the iPod, which it does very well. It is hard to tell that this is not an Apple product. However, there is one glaring problem with this dock. The line-out is not only very low in volume output, which was noted elsewhere in these reviews, but is also disturbingly noisy. My preferred type of music is classical, which has a very great dynamic range. If the volume is turned up sufficiently for reasonable overall volume levels, a very annoying electronic "swishing" noise makes itself present, destroying the rather remarkable fidelity of the iPod itself. I purchased this unit specifically because it had a line out, which should be the cleanest possible output, but it is neither matched to the industry standard volume of my other line-out devices, nor is it a clean signal. I find the listening sessions satisfactory only if I plug the headphone connector on the iPod directly into my amp, which, I suppose, defeats the purpose of the dock altogether. I would not have purchased this unit had I known of this shortcoming.
