One of the most common issues I see on a lot of splitter reviews is that the channels end up being split or the sound is converted to mono rather than stereo. I've never had that problem with a splitter.
I do see how some people may have been mistaken after having purchased a splitter into believing that their item wasn't fully functional. The female ends of all the splitters I've ever owned are a bit harder to get your headphone jacks into. The ends seem to go in fine, but the audio will only come out of one side. You have to push the plug a little bit harder until you hear a click so that both channels will pick up properly.
As for the mono stereo debate, my splitter-testing song is always David Bowie's Suffragette City, just because the first thirty seconds of the song make obvious use of the separate channels with the "Hey Man" "Leave me alone" opening. This item was perfect for splitting the sound on my computer between my TV and the regular speakers for my PC. I agree with the reviewer saying that the shipping costs more than the item itself which I do not like. I also agree that the wire is a bit thin so be gentle. Regardless, it works flawlessly. I will probably buy another one to split the sound on my portable music players so my friends can enjoy music with me on the go.
