Product Review
Product Description

ITrip AutoPilot broadcasts the music from your iPod to an open FM frequency on your car's FM stereo so you can play your tunes through your car stereo's speakers. RDS technology shows song information on your RDS-enabled car radio display. Built-in SmartScan technology finds the perfect frequency setting for you. The AutoPilot playback control puts a set of iPod play controls in easy reach.
Amazon.com Product Description

Straightforward and reliable, the RoadTrip from Griffin allows you to enjoy your library of music through your vehicle's sound system. Cord-based controls mean you can tuck your iPod out of sight (in the glove box or under a seat) and retain total playback control. If your stereo is RDS-enabled, the RoadTrip displays song and artist information.

Summary: Poor FM Transmission 2008-08-24
Comment: I found this to be a terrible FM transmitter. It would not over power any radio stations. I tried every station manually and always got fuzz or fade over when playing the ipod. The Smart Scan did not work at all. I don't live in a densely populated area either. I have a 2 year old Trans Pod that still works very well, that I returned to using. The old one has a stand up base that I'm always knocking into, so I liked the design of the this iTrip and thought I'd give it a try. I was very disappointed even though I knew not to expect the sound from these transmitters to be ideal.

I returned it to Amazon. I need to say Amazon's delivery and refund services were outstanding, easy and prompt.

Summary: Worse $99 I've ever spent 2008-08-24
Comment: I am absolutely disgusted. This product simply does not work, period!! Griffin should be ashamed of themselves. I live in Rochester, NY and there isn't one clean frequency that it plays on without static. Even worse, the RDS feature that attracted me to this product in the first place is an abomination. IT DOES NOT WORK. Save your money and wait for another company to produce an RDS compatible product. I've switched back to my Monster Cable product and get static free reception all over the greater Rochester area on 88.1 (albeit without RDS functionality). Thank you Monster!!

Summary: ALL THE RIGHT FEATURES, BUT NO POWER! 2008-08-22
Comment: I just received my Griffin iTrip Autopilot w/Smartscan and I know there are a lot of reviews besides mine to get the same information. I generally do not write reviews, but this product is so lame from a company that has in the past produced such great products that I am shocked. I set it up, even pushed it into international mode to broadcast lower on the dial, and it is awful. The unit has no power to even take over a band that has little or no interference. Its going back to Amazon tomorrow. By the way, I took the chance that it was better than some people here said because I loved the idea of the operating controls on the power plug. My cheap iRiver FM transmitter blows this away with a very strong signal, and I live in LA.

Summary: If I could get it zero stars...I would. 2008-08-17
Comment: Positively the worst technology purchase I have made...ever.

The "auto" sense for detecting the best radio station only ever picks the strong clear stations that already have something broadcasting over it, which makes that feature useless.

I went over each and every FM channel by hand, and never ONCE found a single channel that would play music off my iPhone 3g at anywhere near an acceptable level of clarity. I could have tolerated the occasional static, but while the car was moving, I was lucky to catch one second out of every thirty seconds that wasn't all static, on every channel I tried.

Complete garbage, save your money and buy a after-market car stereo with an auxiliary port.

Summary: Excellent Product for iPhone 3G if direct input is not available 2008-08-12
Comment: I originally tried the Belkin product and returned it as it did not work well at all. The Griffin iTrip AutoPilot works very well particularly when "tweaked" to work on the lower frequencies per one of the other posters.
