This review is from: Belkin F8Z441-P TuneBase FM with Hands-Free (Electronics)
I have used this device for over 2 years almost every day and it completely changed the way I use my iPhone. I have read many reviews giving it a bad wrap and hope to set the record straight on it: Belkin's TuneBase is better than initially expected.
I needed to find an effective way to charge my phone, play music in my truck when needed and a hands free device. Although this device was expensive 2 years ago I bought it just to try it out and have enjoyed it ever since. I have a F-150 and the 12V outlet seems to be specially close to the steering wheel - the flexible neck of the Tunebase was specially helpful to set the device in the right location that would make it accessible and avoid any of the vehicle's controls. Another nice feature is that it recharges my phone in around 20 to 30 minutes, which is approximately my commute time. You won't ever recharge it as quickly connecting the USB cable to the 12V adapter and won't have to deal with the hassle of cables in your...Read more

Used in a 2005 Chrysler 300. The general idea of the product is to play your iPod/Phone through your car's stereo with a low powered FM transmitter. In Minneapolis we have a good number of stations which makes finding a decent signal somewhat difficult. On the otherhand, once you're about 40 miles out of town it's much easier to get some good fidelity. Unfortunately, the 300's interior doesn't really care for the device as the only place that it makes sense to put either sits in the passenger's lap or blocks your A/C and heat knobs.
Pros:
Play your music in your car with relative ease
Allows you to keep your case on if you're using the phone
Apparently can be used with phone calls, though I just ignore calls while I'm driving
Cons:
Hard to find a good signal in large radio markets
Not a great fit for some vehicles
Rather touchy (has powered off on bumpy roads causing very loud static then mid-volume music)

I am absolutely shocked that this thing even made it past any kind of QA testing.
* The device itself simply didn't have the strength to hold up my iPhone 4, even with the case off and with the adapter collar.
* The product advertises that it works with most cases, yet I have one of the thinner cases available on the market and the bracket won't securely hold the phone, with or without the case on.
* Can't find a free frequency. I live in a fairly rural area with plenty of open space on the dial. This device would lock onto frequencies as clear when they were already used by some of the largest power transmitters in the area.
* Even when I manually dialed it to a clear frequency, the audio quality was horrible.
* When using the line in pass through, audio quality was still horrible.
* Handsfree mode was a total failure. My phone was not mounted anywhere near a speaker and the car stereo volume was turned down as quiet...Read more
